Day 1- Sugar Detox Report

Today officially begins my 14-Day Sugar Detox. I’m feeling equal parts excited and nervous. After looking at my baseline numbers over the past two weeks—and discovering I’m pre-diabetic - I’m ready to take control and change my trajectory.

Remember, this detox is all about improving glucose control and supporting metabolic flexibility, which many of us lose over years of sugar-heavy eating. Let’s get into Day 1.

Morning Check-In During My Day 1 Sugar Detox

Weight: 201.1 lbs

Fasting Glucose (CGM): 116 mg/dL

Oura Readiness: 83

Oura Sleep Quality: 75

Energy Level: 8/10 — excited and motivated

Mood: Great

Breakfast: Skipped

I didn’t feel hungry this morning likely because I finished off my final “pre-detox” sugar binge last night. Today feels like a reset.

Bright morning kitchen with natural light, a glass of water, and an open journal labeled Day 1 to represent the start of a sugar detox journey.

Afternoon Check-In - How My Body Responded on Day 1 Sugar Detox

After 4 hours of pickleball, I hit a wall. My body is definitely feeling the intensity.

Glucose (CGM): 125 mg/dL

Lunch: Spinach salad with chicken, peppers, avocado, onions, fruit (see our YouTube channel)

Snacks: None

Energy Level: Tired

Mood: Still positive

Cravings: None yet

Still running on leftover glucose stores from the past several days, so no sugar cravings yet. Hunger is kicking in though.

Evening Check-In For My Day 1 Sugar Detox Journey

I’m hungry from the day’s activity, but surprisingly not craving sweets.

Glucose (CGM): 103 mg/dL

Dinner: Chicken + veggie tray (see our YouTube channel)

Snacks: A handful of cashews

Cravings: None

Daily Recap

CGM Glucose Range: 83 – 164 mg/dL Total Activity (Apple Watch): 4,651 calories Water Intake: 220 oz Overall Energy: 8/10 Overall Mood: Excited and focused Cravings: None — but very thirsty today

Observations

  • My glucose spiked to 164 mg/dL during pickleball even though I only drank water.

→ This is normal. High-intensity exercise signals your liver to release stored glucose for quick energy.

  • About 3 hours after exercise, my glucose dropped to 83 mg/dL and stayed stable around 108–109 for the rest of the day and overnight.

  • This is my first day without sugar in quite a while. My body is used to a steady supply of sugar, so it will be interesting to see how these trends shift over the next few days.

Expectation Going Forward

Cravings typically show up between Days 2–5 as stored glucose drops and the body adapts. Energy and mood often fluctuate. I’ll track that honestly each day so you can see the real progression.
