Day 2 - Sugar Detox Report

I am officially two days into the sugar detox, and overall I am still feeling pretty good. A lot of that is simply stored sugar (glycogen) still fueling me. My liver, muscles, and even fat cells are holding onto the glucose from my past eating habits. But today I definitely noticed my body starting to wake up to the fact that very little new sugar is coming in.
Day 2 Sugar Detox Morning Check-In
Weight: 196.9 lbs Fasting Glucose (CGM): 116 mg/dL Sleep (Oura Ring) Readiness: 82 Sleep Quality: 83 Energy Level: 6 Mood: Great mood Breakfast: Banana
I skipped a real breakfast because I played pickleball first thing. I can’t play on a full stomach, so I stuck to water and a banana to get me through without feeling sluggish.

Afternoon Glucose Trends During My Day 2 Sugar Detox
I logged 4.5 hours of pickleball today. What surprised me was how clear-headed I felt during play, my reaction time felt sharp, and oddly enough, even my vision felt more dialed in. Not sure why but definitely noting it.
Glucose (CGM): 113 mg/dL Meal: Almond tortilla wrapped cheeseburgers Snacks: Cashews, dates (caused a spike), apple slices with cashew butter
I expected the fiber in dates to help soften a glucose spike, but my glucose jumped to 139 mg/dL afterward. Good reminder that “natural sugar” is still sugar, especially during detox week.
Evening Cravings and Mood Shifts on Day 2 of the Sugar Detox
By evening I was hungry (no surprise after burning so many calories). This is also when my normal habit kicks in when I am used to grabbing something sweet after dinner. That urge definitely showed up tonight. I had to avoid the pantry.
Glucose (CGM): 116 mg/dL Meal: Meatballs with spaghetti squash + marinara Snacks: Cashews, halloumi with marinara
Daily Recap
Glucose Range: 94 – 142 mg/dL Total Activity (Apple Watch): 4,789 calories Water: 280 oz Overall Energy: 4 – body exhausted Overall Mood: A little short and cranky after hours of pickleball Overall Cravings: Stronger today than Day 1
Observations
During pickleball my glucose rose to 142, then dropped down to 94 a few hours after I finished. For the rest of the day it held steady around 110, settling around 109 at bedtime.
Even though I didn’t eat sugar, I still had nighttime glucose spikes up to 123. This is normal early in a detox as your body is still expecting its usual sugar supply, so the liver releases stored glucose to keep things “normal.”
This is the adjustment phase.
What is Likely Happening Today:
My body still thinks sugar is coming and compensates by pulling from stored glycogen.
Evening cravings show old habits starting to surface.
Mood and irritability can shift as glucose becomes less available.
Physical performance may temporarily use up sugar faster than the body can stabilize.
Better mental clarity during activity is common when insulin spikes aren’t constantly happening.
Two Days Without Sugar.
My body is learning, recalibrating, and starting to understand that the sugar rush it’s used to isn’t arriving. The nighttime spikes seem to be part of that reset.
